It is always Bleum’s strategy to master technologies that are at the cutting edge, because they often provide the best opportunities for us to create value.  We see the iPhone platform as a significant new technology that will result in it becoming the ubiquitous device.  Therefore we are committed to building teams that our customers around the world may tap to quickly implement some iPhone applications and get a jump on their competition.  Bleum is also interested in the iPhone as an exercise to hone the company’s UI design capabilities.

To this end Bleum has launched an iPhone team that is learning the platform by implementing two projects for Bleum.  The first of these is an iPhone adaptation of Bleum’s popular Calendar program.  This will every day change the wallpaper picture on the user’s iPhone to the same picture in Bleum’s calendar.  These are interesting pictures of every day life in China.  From modern maglev trains to simple village life we turn the user’s phone into a daily snapshot of life in China.  The technically interesting part of this project is that the pictures are not all installed at once in the application, but rather distributed periodically to users through their data connection.

The second application Bleum’s team is building is a city guide.  We cannot disclose too much about this publicly yet, but it provides the perfect pocket traveling companion for someone traveling to Shanghai.  With the new GPS features in the iPhone 3G we will research into making a Google AdWords-style location based advertisement server.
